3.1 Read the following news story. Identify one statement with each of the given elements of newsworthiness. Write the statement and the element most relevant to it in parenthesis. Justify your selected element for each statement. You are awarded 1 mark for each statement matched with the most relevant element identified; and 1 mark for each justification.
Coronavirus morning recap: Test swab stuck in woman’s lung, and Covid corruption latest
Doctors found a snapped coronavirus test swab inside the lung of a 51-year-old patient; and Hawks to make more arrests this week amid Covid-19 corruption.
A 51-year-old patient ended up with a snapped coronavirus test swab inside her lung after it was inserted into a breathing tube in her neck, a BMJ case report revealed.
The woman was undergoing brain surgery in a UK hospital to remove a fragment of her skull. As part of her treatment, a tracheostomy tube – placed into the windpipe to assist with breathing – was fitted.
After the operation, medical staff at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS (National Health Service) Trust sent the patient to undergo a coronavirus test as part of normal protocol before discharging her to a nursing home.
Since the patient had been breathing through the hole in her neck and could have potentially become infected with the virus through this airway, medical staff took a swab through her tracheostomy tube.
However, a nurse carrying out the test felt the swab snap during the procedure, and part of it ended up in the patient’s windpipe.
The test swab is designed to snap into a test tube to be sent to the lab.
According to the case report, the patient became -momentarily unsettled- and began breathing more heavily for a while before returning to normal.
A CT scan of the woman's chest was performed, but the images did not reveal any signs of a foreign object. However, it did indicate an unusual swelling in the lower part of her right lung.

One (1) mark is awarded for the headline and 1 mark for each complete statement that is grammatically flawless. No mark is awarded where there is an error/s.

I had a test today. I think I faled it and I think mabye now they wont use
me. What happind is I went to Prof Nemurs office on my lunch time like they
said and his secertery took me to a place that said psych dept on the door
with a long hall and alot of littel rooms with onley a desk and chares. And
a nice man was in one of the rooms and he had some wite cards with ink spilld
all over them. He sed sit down Charlie and make yourself cunfortible and
rilax. He had a wite coat like a docter but I dont think. he was no docter
because he dint tell me to opin my mouth and say ah. All he had was those
wite cards. His name is Burt. I fergot his last name because I dont remembir
I dint know what he was gonna do and I was holding on tite to the chair like
sometimes when I go to a dentist onley Burt aint no dentist neither but he
kept telling me to rilax and that gets me skared because it always means its
So Burt sed Charlie what do you see on this card. I saw the spilld ink and
I was very skared even tho I got my rabits foot in my pockit because when I
was a kid I always faled tests in school and I spilld ink to.
