Assignment 1: 200 words.
Welcome to the COMM1101 online course!
Part 1: Please introduce yourself to your classmates here. Tell us a little bit about who you are and where you come from, as well as a little about your favourite hobbies and interests.
In your post, see if you can also answer the following questions:
What are your own personal goals for developing your communication skills in this course? What do you want to work on?
What book do you want to read for the end-of-term book review/critique assignment (you will probably want to start reading it soon!)? For this assignment, you'll want to pick a book that is a popular business book - you can get one from the library, the city library, or Chapters. What book(s) might you consider, and why does it interest you?
What topics do you think might be interesting for the formal research report assignment? Why do they interest you? Your choice of topic should have something to do with communication, either in the present or in the past, and it can relate to the field of business or it can relate to communication in society in general. I'll have a little more guidance for you about the assignment soon, but right now I want you to start brainstorming about why communication is important in different contexts and start thinking about topics you might want to explore.
While writing, concentrate on the basics of good grammar and spelling. Use short paragraphs, and try to make sure that each paragraph contains only one main topic or idea. Think about the best way to present the information so that it makes sense and is interesting when your classmates read it.
