BA Hons Applied Social Studies in Social Care Contemporary Sociological Theory Essay 2021
The recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on climate change, the IPCC (2021), states that climate change is widespread, rapid and intensifying and is a result of human activity. It states that strong reductions in carbon dioxide emissions are required urgently to limit the damage to the planet.
The EAT-Lancet Report also notes that a radical transformation of the global food system is urgently required. It recommends a diet rich in plant-based foods and with fewer animal source foods which would confer both improved health and environmental benefits.
In the context of the climate crisis and drawing on the readings and your own reflections, consider the competing claims around farming and food production, the food industry and our food and diet options for the future.
