WEEK 2 IDEA: 30-Day Unrestricted Leave Mandate Program.
My proposal focuses on extending leave periods for Marines, as I am unfamiliar with any other military services’ leave forum. I entitled my proposal the: 30-Day Unrestricted Leave Mandate Program. The goal of the 30-Day Unrestricted Leave Mandate is to allow Marines an extended amount of time away from their workplace that cannot be denied.
Marines have the option to submit for the Unrestricted Leave Mandate without having to request for annual leave first. The objective is to provide a separate action request in the service members leave portal. This will assist with differentiating their accrued annual leave from the mandated Unrestricted 30-Day Leave pool.
Marines will have the option to submit for annual leave and in addition, select from a drobox in the same page to add the Unrestricted 30-Day Leave onto this leave request. The objective of this feature is to allow the individual Marines to make the decision to roll into the 30-Day leave or simply return to work without spending any of the special leave. This feature also forces management to continuously ensure that personnel, logistics and supply are at a healthy balance. Marines have the flexible option of utilizing the number of days within the program. Marines do not need to update the feature designation before the end of their annual leave to digitally notify management they will be returning to work. The feature will retroactively return the number of Mandated days unused once the Marine returns to work.
The 30-Day Leave Mandate program is restricted from being used by Marines pending or undergoing any legal issues. If Marines are charged under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, the leave program is no longer accessible to them.
