Assessment 2: Written Essay (30%)
While the word count for Assessment 2 is 1500 words this is inclusive of two (2) components.
Part 1: 250 words
During your week 5 workshop, you will be sharing two (2) simple annotated bibliographies of literature you have selected for your essay.
You will be required to undertake a literature search to identify two (2) papers that you can use to support the discussion in your paper related to an attribute you have chosen, this could be for one of the attributes you have chosen or one paper for two of the attributes you have chosen.
These must be credible peer reviewed sources.
The annotation should include:
• Full reference details in APA style – as you would write in a reference list
• A basic summary of the article with a simple description of the approach to collecting data
• A brief description of how it is a useful article for your assignment (e.g. It supports the value of an attribute in terms of safe and effective care)
A template is available in LMS to assist you with this.
*Note this part is not assessed by your facilitator and therefore does NOT need to be uploaded into Turnitin Part 2: 1250 words
The written essay that you submit via Turnitin will equate to 1250 words (+/- 10%); this submission will be reflective of a title page; introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion; in-text refencing to substantiate your stance and a reference list.
Drawing upon the discussions in the Enquiry 1 workshops, LMS, online materials and required readings you are to write an essay as below. This essay will be assessed and marked by your Workshop Facilitator or another member of the HLT1IPP teaching team.
Topic:
Professional identity is defined “as one’s professional self-concept based on attributes, beliefs, values, motives and experiences” (Ibarra, 1999; Schein 1978 as cited in Slay, Smith, Khapova, & Arthur, 2011, p. 1).
Identify three (3) attributes of professional identity; and discuss how each attribute guides the provision of safe and effective client care within healthcare settings.
References: A minimum of five (5) credible references. Information sourced from literature needs to be integrated to support the ideas presented in your essay
Length: 1250 words (+/-10%), excluding reference list (but including in-text citations) Value: 30% of the total marks for HLT1IPP
Document format: The assignment must be submitted as a Microsoft Word or PDF document. Turnitin will NOT accept other documents formats (i.e. pages format created on Macs). Please convert your file format if you need to. If you have already submitted your assignment, please check that you have used an accepted format.

Essay structure
An essay should include an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. (1250 words +/- 10% = 1125 – 1375 words)
Introduction:
• (usually 10% of the word count)
• Written in the present tense.
• Provide a sentence or two regarding what the essay is about or why this topic is important. An overview of what the reader should expect to read within the assignment.
• Provide a road map. That is, outline exactly what the essay will discuss

PLEASE NOTE in this assessment:
• Always answer the essay question. That said the essay question is intended to be somewhat open as there are a range of disciplines represented in HLT1IPP. As such, some may aim for discussion that has more breadth while others may focus on more depth. What content you include and emphasise will depend on your discipline, the references / literature you access, and what interests you from the information you have found.
• Do not use sub-headings. You need to transition logically from the first essay question to the next essay question.
• It is an academic essay, not an opinion piece of writing. Ensure you use the literature to support all your discussion, explanations and claims.
SUBJECT INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (SILOS)
Upon successful completion of this subject, you should be able to:

4 Apply reasoning and decision-making processes to clinical and professional case studies. a. Identify the key phases in the clinical reasoning cycle.
b. Describe the important facts, context, or people relating to a clinical or professional case study.
c. Collect relevant information relating to a clinical or professional case study.
d. Interpret, discriminate and relate information in order to make logical deductions or form opinions by interpreting subjective and objective information. Identify decisions and judgements made in clinical and professional case studies.
Referencing: The essay must be fully referenced using the APA 7th style. This involves clearly and accurately referencing all material from sources you have read in the body of the essay (in-text referencing). A Reference list which includes full bibliographical details of ALL the sources you have cited should be provided at the end of the essay. There are a range of referencing resources available on LMS, and LTU Library.
Originality: The essay will be a piece of individual and original work. You may discuss the essay with other students and your Workshop Facilitator whilst you are in the process of developing an understanding of how you will interpret the topic. However, each student is required to submit an individual, original essay. For further clarification, please refer to the University webpage on academic integrity

Turnitin: The University uses text matching software, Turnitin, to analyse similarity between published material and student assignments (http://www.latrobe.edu.au/students/support/it/teaching/turnitin). The software also matches to other student assignments. All students are required to submit their individual essay to Turnitin, by the essay due date (and time); essays will not be graded until the Turnitin report is available to Facilitators. Advice on the procedure for Turnitin submission will be provided on the HLT1IPP LMS site, in the online showbag, and was reviewed in the week one workshop. You will have an opportunity to submit essay drafts to Turnitin to check the similarity index for issues with paraphrasing and citation, and make amendments if required, before finalising the essay by the due date.
Your essay must be submitted to Turnitin via the LMS site for HLT1IPP, and under your own access code (otherwise it will be attributed to the person who logged onto the LMS site). You can submit several drafts prior to the due date and time. The report on your first submission will be available almost immediately, but reports on subsequent submissions can take 24 hours to process. You will be able to check for inappropriate ‘matches’ and then correct these and re-submit your work.
The Turnitin report will also enable your Workshop Facilitator to assess the level of originality of your essay. The report from this text-matching software may impact on your grade if it is evident if the essay is not your own original work.
Your paper must be submitted via Turnitin in the Assessment 2: Written Essay folder within the Assessment tile.
• Penalties as per the La Trobe University Policy will be incurred after Monday 3rd August 2020 by 9am.
• Applications for extension must be received 72 hours (3 working days) prior to the due date (and time). This is aligns with Latrobe University requirements: Click here for the extension policy.
Application for Extensions: Extensions need to be applied for within 72 hours (3 working days) prior to the due date (and time). Weekend days, public holidays, and University holidays will not be counted within the 72 hours - you must allow a full 3 working days to process your application. Applications are to be submitted online - no paper submissions will be accepted. The extension request link is located within each Assessments for this subject's on LMS. Students with a Learning Access Plan (LAP) and Elite Athletes who require an extension still need to complete this request if an extension is so we can be informed of your submission intention. An extension is not automatically granted.
You will receive a reply from a member of the Subject Coordination team about the outcome of your extension so that you can plan accordingly. If an extension is granted, the late submission policy and same penalties will apply to the revised due date.
Penalties: Late submissions shall be penalised in accordance with La Trobe University’s policy and procedure on ‘Late Submission of Assessment Tasks’. All assignments received more than FIVE days after the due date (and due time) will not be accepted. A score of '0' will be recorded. The assignment will NOT be marked.
Assignments submitted within FIVE days of the due date (and due time) will have the penalty subtracted after the assignment grade has been calculated out of 100. Weekend days, public holidays, and University holidays are not counted as days overdue. Penalties for late work that has had no prior approved extension will be calculated as follows:
Submission by due date/time: no penalty
• Within 24 hrs (1 day) after the assignment was due: subtract 5%
• Within 48 hrs (2 days) after the assignment was due: subtract 10% • Within 72 hrs (3 days) after the assignment was due: subtract 15%
• Within 96 hrs (4 days) after the assignment was due: subtract 20%
• Within 120 hrs (5 days) after the assignment was due: subtract 25%
After 120 hrs (5 days) after the assignment was due: not accepted. Not graded. Score of '0' given.
Penalties do not apply to approved extensions.
Remark procedure: In accordance with University policy, because this assessment is worth more than 15%, it is eligible for remarking. This is aligns with Latrobe University requirements: Click here for the extension policy.
All assignments that receive a score of less than 50 will be remarked. This is indicated in your general comments. Additionally, members of the teaching and coordination team moderate some assignments for each facilitator to ensure consistency of marking. If your assignment has been moderated, this will be indicated in your general comments.
Students can request a remark for assignments worth 20% or more. Re-marks must be sought with good reason. The University has formal policies and procedures regarding the re-mark of student work at the student’s request. The process to be followed to seek a remark is as follows:
1. First, please discuss your queries or concerns about the grading of your assignment with your Facilitator. Contact your Facilitator by email to organise a meeting or phone discussion. The review must take place within ten working days of the publication of the result. The Facilitator will discuss your performance in the assessment task with reference to the grading criteria and will also check that the result has been calculated correctly but will not re-mark the work. This is an opportunity for you to understand why you have gained or lost marks, not to negotiate a different mark.
2. If you are not satisfied with the response from this meeting then you have a further 10 working days to apply in writing to the Subject Coordinator (Ms Kate Dawson k.dawson@latrobe.edu.au) for a re-mark of the assignment. The application for re-mark must:
• Include evidence that the assignment has been reviewed by the Facilitator
• Report the result of the review
• Explain the grounds on which the re-mark is sought.
A student may request a re-mark of an assessable piece of work only on the grounds that the original assessment: i) was biased; or ii) failed to follow the published assessment criteria or grading scheme for the assessment task. The student must provide evidence to support the grounds claimed.
