Assessment instructions Scenario:
You are the Facilities Manager for a large hotel located in the CBD of Sydney. You have received a report confirming that a guest staying at the hotel has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Your General Manager has requested that you prepare a detailed report identifying and evaluating the various processes, protocols and systems that could be utilised to control and prevent the potential spread of the virus to staff and other hotel guests.
The report is to be completed individually and should be 2,500 words long. You are required to make a range of informed decisions concerning the implementation of appropriate preventative strategies.
This will require the analysis and evaluation of anticipated circumstances in relation to a variety of hazardous situations.
The measures that could be implemented in providing a safe, healthy and secure environment should be based on knowledge acquired in relation to the Facilities Management and Workplace Health and Safety unit content.
The scope of the report should include:
1. Establish the Context – planning - the purpose, scope, who is involved, etc. Explaining the relevant wider context (the big picture)
2. Risk Identification: An assessment of the issues to health, the environment and organisational stability
3. Risk management: Assessing the consequences, mitigation, reporting and governance.
4. Controlling the Risk: How the adverse consequences of the hazard can be managed (controlled). (Systems and processes that could be accessed and utilised to curtail the spread of the virus).
5. Recommendations for Monitoring, Evaluation and Review. A concluding section which provides a critical analysis of the issue
The report is to be referenced in APA Style (both in-text and in the reference list. References in the list must be in text at least once) and formatted to the ICMS published standards and formats.
You are expected to demonstrate wide research in this report. Do not use internet sites that are not independent and authoritative. Do not use secondary internet sources or sites such as Wikipedia that only offer opinions not substantiated facts. Do not cite your lecture material.
The report has a weighting of 50% of the subject. It is due on or before 29th November Week 11 before midnight. An electronic copy must be submitted through Turnitin on or before the due date. No printed copy is required.
Readings for the assessment (instructions where they can be found e.g. MyAthens database,
Moodle etc.) Students are expected to locate their own source material for this report.
