- my specialisation maths primary school
relation to your area of specialisation, select three tasks that each could be used for diagnostic, formative, or summative purposes.
For each task:
The tasks are to be sourced from published texts or from the internet - remember to cite and reference appropriately.
The tasks can be any learning activity. You do not have to look for published assessment tasks.
You should not design new assessment tasks. The aim is for you to identify from published resources a task that would be suitable for the assessment purpose you nominate.
Describe the task - include images of relevant parts of the task throughout the text if useful. Do not attach the task in an appendix. You can post a copy of the task in Pebble Pad if you wish to keep a copy for future reference.
Explain why the task is suitable for the purpose nominated. Use examples from the task to illustrate the points made.
Make explicit the work students will produce for assessment - product or performance.
Make connections to the curriculum. Explain how the task is related to parts of the curriculum for the year level targeted (e.g., Learning area rationale, strand, proficiencies, General Capabilities, and/or Cross-curriculum Priorities).
Describe the purpose of the task in terms the ideas, understanding, skills and/or knowledge the task will evidence - should be related directly to a content descriptor from the curriculum, whether looking for student misconceptions (diagnostic), identifying progress (formative), or making judgments about level of achievement for reporting purposes (summative).
Make explicit the work students will produce for assessment from completing the task - product or performance.
Use the literature on assessment to support and justify your ideas. At least one reference to the literature should be related to assessment in your area of specialisation.
Structure Assessment Task 1 in four parts (approx. 500 words for each section) - a brief overview of assessment in general and assessment in your area of specialisation and then a section for each of the assessment purposes.
No formal essay structure is required but there is the expectation that you use correct grammar, complete paragraphs, and proper sentences that are free from spelling errors to tell your assessment story.
Can I write in first person?
No. AT1 is not a personal account. Consider it to be a formal report for which writing in third person is most appropriate.
Where can I find tasks to use for assessment?
For example, State Education web sites, Museum websites, and professional teacher organisations such as the primary English Teachers Association or the History Teachers Association of Australia, or the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers
Justify the selection of assessment opportunities and strategies identified
Connect assessment practices identified to the curriculum and contemporary issues in assessment Utilise the literature on assessment and reporting to support ideas and claims made
Apply academic writing skills to communicate in a structured, cohesive and ethical manner

Eg mines Arts so I would show a visual arts end of term assesment for end of unit ( summative ) then show the linked descriptiors and links it will let students achievement?
Then the next three paragraphs it’s
- Assesmnet task and describe it
- explain why it’s a good assessment task
- explain what Students will produce
- make connections to VCCA descriptors
- decide if it’s diagnostic, formative or summative
- then add references

You must also provide justification for choosing each approach by drawing on the theoretical material covered in the unit and making connections to the curriculum.
