Unit Summary This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to sustain and develop an environment in which continuous improvement, innovation and learning are promoted and rewarded.
It applies to people with managerial responsibilities who aim to build a better and more effective work environment. Continuous improvement and innovation have links with the model of the learning organisation and people working at this level play an important role in building the culture, values and attitudes of the organisation.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Conditions and context of the assessments Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership field of work and include access to:

Re-assessment To gain competency you need to get Satisfactory (S) result in all the tasks. If Not Satisfactory (NS) result is given even for a task you will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC). Students who are unsuccessful at achieving competency at the first attempt will be offered coaching, information and additional time (other needs if required) before a second and possibly a third attempt is made. If the student is not able to satisfactorily complete the assessment after the third attempt the student will be deemed Not Competent and resulted as such. The student may re-enrol in the qualification at a later date to gain successful completion of the unit/s.

Plagiarism CAC considers plagiarism and cheating as serious student misconduct and this may result either in a student’s exclusion from a unit or course or may have to complete a re-assessment depending on individual case. Complaints and appeal Where a student wishes to appeal an assessment decision they are required to notify their assessor in the first instance. Assessors Intervention Assessors are to check that the student is ready for assessment, and defer the assessment if they are not. It is important that assessors do not teach at the assessment but allow students to competence for themselves.
Feedback is to be given at the completion of the assessment using the feedback to student. If a student does not meet a standard, the assessor is to sit down with them and assist them in their understanding. Should you disagree with the assessment outcome, you can appeal the decision as stated in the Student Handbook.
Your student record must indicate that you have all required skills and knowledge in completing the task. For each assessment, the assessor is to act as a supervisor and not interfere with the assessment. If the assessment activities will impact on your safety or that of others, the assessment must be stopped immediately.

Assessment Instruction Assessment is mapped to the unit and must be completed by the end of each unit. For answers to written questions, reports and projects, you must:

• Answer each of the key points and /or follow instructions
• Assessments written in pencil or are illegible will not be accepted.
Please NOTE: Student has to submit their assessment task attached to this booklet. Ask your assessor if you do not understand any part of the assessment. Whist your assessor cannot tell you the answer, he/she may be able to re-word a question or instruction to assist in a better understanding for you.
Assessment Task 1: For this assessment you will need to write a report in no less than 1500 words by conducting a thorough research on the case study provided. You are required to provide a written report by outlining a performance and sustainability review strategy, evaluate the strategy, analyse performance reports and trends, and describe how you would seek advice from specialist to identify technological solutions. This report should be written in conjunction with the learner guide provided.
Prepare for the task by completing the steps provided. There is no particular format for the report however, students must discuss the following the points provided in the student instruction.
Assessment Task 2: Read Part 2 of the Case Study in order to carry out this task. Your task is to research and make a presentation outlining your findings. Use the points as a guide to your research. Student also need to submit the hard copy of the power point presentation
Assessment Task 3: This is a written assessment that will student’s knowledge. This assessment may be completed over the duration of the training day or in one sitting of about 60 minutes. As the students learn, practice and review knowledge and skills, students will keep Assessment Task 3 in front of them and answer the questions as the information becomes clearer. At the beginning of each review session students will be given a few minutes to familiarise themselves with the questions. Students will be given extra time at the end of the day to complete this assessment or to clarify facts with the Trainer/Assessor
Competency Decision Student must satisfactorily complete each assessment tasks to be Competent (C) in the unit. Student with unsatisfactory completion of any of the assignment tasks will be deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC).
Reasonable adjustment
To meet the needs of all learners’ adjustments can be made to the way assessments are conducted but not to the requirements of the assessment. The purpose of these adjustments is to enhance fairness and flexibility so that the specific needs of students can be met.

ASSESSMENT TASK 1 – REPORT
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS:
For this assessment you will need to write a report in no less than 1500 words by conducting a thorough research on the case study provided. You are required to provide a written report by outlining a performance and sustainability review strategy, evaluate the strategy, analyse performance reports and trends, and describe how you would seek advice from specialist to identify technological solutions. This report should be written in conjunction with the learner guide provided.
Finish the task by completing the following steps. There is no particular format for the plan however, students must discuss the following in their plan:
1. Executive Summary: It is a summary containing all the main findings and conclusions, so that a busy executive can get a flavour of what the report says and decide whether or not s/he needs to read it all. It is not to be confused with the Introduction.
2. Introduction: This sets the scene for what is to follow.
3. Discussion: In this part, you need to perform the following:
3.1. You must ensure to address each of the following points:
i. Analyse the three key systems and process by addressing:
a) Key result areas (KRAs): (for examples processes, customers, etc.).
b) Key performance indicators (KPIs): (for examples sales, customer satisfactions, etc.).
c) A brief description of the performance review processes
d) A sample service level agreement (this can be a very simple agreement where you should include the parties names, dates, contents of agreement and signatures)

c. Product/ service delivery
iii. Measurement tools/ assessment tools used to monitor performance. (For examples, come out a strategy to review the performance, improvement strategy, etc.)

c) Profit (for instance, surplus/ deficit, break even, etc.)
d) Product delivery (for instance, through what channel of distributions, timing, etc.)

v. Trends relevant to the organization (for instance, customer buying behaviour, cultural changed,
etc.)
Weaknesses of the company (hints: explore company initial weaknesses prior 1960 on market share, reputation, stability, etc.; then describe the performance of the company after being took over on sales, profit, management, production, etc.)
vi. The specialists to the company if company did not close in 1967 (hints: look into internal staffs, for examples, sales personnel, human resource personnel, etc.; external staffs, for examples, advertising expert, marketing consultants, IT consultant, etc.)
3.2. Assuming that there are no improvements have been made and the company is still operating in the same way today as when it closed in 1967. You are required to prepare and submit:
i. Briefs on how performance improvement strategies and innovation as an essential element of competition
ii. Promote interaction within and between work groups to foster a creative and innovative climate and to encourage organisational learning
iii. Encourage and test new ideas and entrepreneurial behaviour, ensuring to complete the following for each:
a. Undertaking the relevant risk management and cost-benefit analysis for each option or idea approved for trial
b. Approving ideas and actions through the agreed organisational processes for approvals, and manage them following project management and change management procedures. Provide evidence of this approval.
c. Accepting any failures of ideas during the trialling, and recognising, celebrating and embedding successes into the systems. Record all trial outcomes, failures and successes, including how successes will be embedded into the system
