TASK INSTRUCTIONS
You are required to write a case study report on issues with a manager in a company and suggest how these can be solved. You must first choose a manager, identify the problems (2-3) and then decide how to solve the problems. Your report will end with a final recommendation. You will need to provide evidence in the form of researched theories to support your ideas. These sources must be referenced correctly (in-text and a reference list).
1. Create a profile for your manager in the introduction. Decide what the person does (position and type of company) and start with a strength before outlining the manager’s weaknesses/issues. You can base this on a real person or it can be entirely imaginative.
2. Identify what the problems are and how you will address them. The problems may be communicative, operational, low staff moral or productivity, staff resignations, a threat from outside the company (such as changes in regulations or laws), a management style problem, a structural problem, or any other serious problem that might affect a manager’s future. Make sure you support your ideas using researched theories from other authors and include in-text citations. Look in Moodle Week 8 for some ideas.
3. Offer solutions for the problems you have identified. Each solution should be evaluated, noting the advantages and disadvantages. Include in-text citations either paraphrased or as direct quotes to strengthen your ideas.
4. End your report with a final recommendation. Here you choose the best solution from the ones you’ve proposed in the previous paragraph. You should NOT use any in-text citations here.
5. Include the following sub-headings in your report:
• Case study report
• Introduction
• Problem identification and analysis
• Possible solutions and evaluation
• Recommendation
• List of references (APA style)
6. Upload your Case Study Report to Turnitin before 11:59pm Wednesday 27 November 2019. You must provide a doctor’s certificate or valid reason if you cannot hand in your Case Study on the due date otherwise 5 marks will be deducted each day after (after 7 days 0%). An extension may only be granted if your teacher receives a ‘Request for extension form’ no later than 2 days prior to the due date which is available from Student Services.

To assist lecturers in the process of dealing with plagiarism, ICMS identifies three (3) levels of plagiarism
Minor Infringements in Research/ Referencing
In these minor cases, the Subject Lecturer will deal with cases of this type. Students may be referred or directed to the Academic Learning Centre for help and advice about APA referencing conventions and the like.
In the case of minor infringements, the Subject Lecturer will provide the student with information about how to avoid such actions in the future. In these circumstances, the Subject Lecturer has the discretion to impose Level 1 penalties, including:
• A warning
• Loss of marks
• Resubmission of work
Medium-Level Infringements
In cases revealed by a Turn-it-In report with a 'percentage submission' of between 15% and 20% (that is, some sentences copied and pasted from another source with no referencing), the Head of School deals with the issue once they are advised by the Subject Coordinator.
The Head of School assesses the severity of the infringement by examining the evidence supplied. Head of School will provide the Subject Lecturer with a ruling on the appropriate penalty. The DVC (Academic Operations) may also meet with the student and/or Subject Lecturer separately during the process.
Level 2 penalties may include:
• Zero marks for the work
• A FAIL grade in the subject.
High-Level Infringements
These are normally highlighted by a Turn-it-In report with a 'percentage submission' of above 20% (that is, large sections of copied and pasted text from other sources with no references or whole assignments matching the work of another student or other party). In these cases, the DVC (Academic Operations) will deal directly with the case.
A compulsory meeting between the student and the Subject Lecturer will be required. Students found guilty of a Level 3 infringement will automatically fail the assessment. Serious cases that involve the intention to deceive the Subject Lecturer will receive a FAIL grade for the subject or a penalty as determined by the DVC (Academic Operations).
Level 3 penalties may include:
• A FAIL grade in the subject
• Suspension
• Academic exclusion
• Dismissal
• An award being withheld
When a student is found to have repeatedly and intentionally plagiarised, the DVC (Academic Operations) will determine the appropriate Level 3 penalty, which may include academic exclusion or dismissal.
