NPS20005 Assessment 3 (DUE DATE: 11:59pm on Sunday 7th October) 20%
You are required to research different companies and identify 3 companies that have projects which potentially could relate to your topic. You need to research each company’s website to identify a project the company is working on that relates to your topic. You also need to provide evidence of at least one publication related to the selected project.
TASK REQUIREMENTS:
Research websites and identify three companies with the list of projects they are working on that is related to your topic. Search databases and identify a published paper related to ONE of the projects and your topic.
TASK 1 Write a paragraph for each company (i.e. three paragraphs in total).
Each paragraph must:
• explain why you selected that company and provide the link to their website
• describe what the company does and their objectives
• detail a project (that is as relevant as possible to your topic) the company is working on
• use intext referencing in each paragraph and provide a Reference List (Swinburne Harvard Style Referencing)
• ONE of your paragraphs must include some information about a published paper related to the company’s projects and your topic
From the three companies you have researched, select the company that has a project you would like to contribute to if you had the opportunity to do a one-year Professional Placement.
TASK 2 Write a letter to the company you have selected. You need to ‘sell’ yourself and the concept of the Professional Placement year to the company. Therefore, the information you include must be interesting, catch their attention and provide relevant information. In your letter provide:
• your personal profile
• explain the Professional Placement year
• describe what you could do for the company, how your knowledge and interest in your topic could contribute to their project and reasons why they should employ you in a Professional Placement year.
REMEMBER, the company may receive many letters like the one you are sending, so your letter needs to be written in a way that catches the reader’s attention and provides interesting information that makes you more appealing than all the other students who write to them.
Your letter needs to be of a professional standard. You need to use:
• correct format – your address, date, person you are addressing the letter to, company address, greeting, subject line, good paragraphing, positive and powerful concluding paragraph, appropriate signing off
• persuasive language to ‘sell yourself’ and the Professional Placement year
FORMAT REQUIREMENTS:
• Paragraphs (task one) – clearly titled and well structured
• Letter (task two) - professional style including all elements listed in task • Footer - write your name, unit code and page numbers
