Project Assessment Task 1 — ASSESSOR INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions must be followed when assessing the student in this unit, The checklist on the following page FS to De completed for each student. Please refer to separate mapping document for specific details relating to alignment of this task to the unit
requirements.
Each student has been given the following brief.
-You have been employed by Canterbury Renovations, which is a start-up cabinet making business, Your role is to help develop and implement strategic plans that support the direction and aspirations of the business.
You are to obtain a copy of the business plan from your employer (who will be role-played by your assessor), and read it carefully. Once understood, you are to arrange a time to meet with your employer (your assessor) to identify company goals and aspirations, and to clarify the business plan where required.
Next, you are to develop a detailed operational plan that ensures the objectives and strategies outlined are met by work teams. As a minimum, your operational plan must outline:
• Strategies
• Performance criteria
• Tirneframes
• Budgets
• Responsibilities
• Resources
It is important that you also include details on how the plan will be implemented, monitored and reviewed!
Along with your operational Man, you are to develop and provide all relevant policies and procedures relating to:
• recruitment (including induction and staff development)
• acquiring physical resources /services
• protecting organisational intellectual property
It is important that you:
• Detail any specific resource requirements
• Include a detailed consultation process
• Include kip, 's to measure organisational performance
• Include contingency plans at appropriate stages
• Include strategies for the recruitment / or induction or employees
• Include relevant forecasts or budgets as required
• Detail each strategy with an assigned priority, a timeframe. responsible parties and measurable
performance indicators
Once developed, you are to arrange a meeting with your assessor, who will role-play your supervisor. The purpose of this meeting is to explain and gain approval for the implementation of your plan. You must be well prepared for this meeting, as your supervisor will be asking you detailed questions, and reasons for your
proposal.
This assessment may also be undertaken in your workplace, using data relevant to your organisation.

SPECIFIC ASSESSOR NOTES
For this task, you are to role-play the candidate's supervisor. This will require you to be available for

the student in regards to:
Initial conversations - gaining business concept, budgets and direction
o Ongoing conversations - to discuss progress as appropriate to client
0 Authorisation conversation - to review the candidate's submission, and ask probing questions to ensure the candidate comprehends what they have written.
• When approving the operational plan, you are to request for the student to make at least 1 variation. You should ask for a variation that is relevant to the plan, but may affect other components - such as the communication procedure, or acquisition strategy. The student needs to consider your request in terms of how the variation will affect the rest of the plan before coming to a decision. This task should demonstrate negotiation skills by the candidate.
• This assessment is primarily focused on the student's ability to develop and review their operational plan. Implementation will occur in Assessment 2
• You may substitute the business plan provided with any other business plan for this task This assessment may be undertaken in the following formats:

In conducting training and assessment in a simulated workplace environment. trainers and assessors must make sure that the simulated environment gives the learner the opportunity to meet the following critical criteria:
^ Quality — The work is of the standard required for entry into the industry.
• Productivity — The work is performed within a timeframe appropriate for entry to the industry.
• Safety — The work is performed in a manner that meets industry safety standards.

Student Assessment
Each assessment has taken the following aspects into consideration, to ensure any
simulations provide for integrated assessment of competence. This includes:
• performing the task (task skills)
managing a number of tasks (task management skills)
^ dealing with workplace irregularities such as unexpected problems, breakdowns and
changes in routine (contingency management skills)
• fulfilling the responsibilities and expectations of the job and workplace, including working with others (job/role environment skills)
^ transferring competencies to new contexts.
Assessment activities must be realistic and reasonable in terms of scale. Assessment conducted under simulated conditions should reflect those typically found in the workplace. Where appropriate to the UOC, simulated environment should allow the learner to:
^ deal with typical customers. including difficult customers and diverse types of customers
• use facilities, equipment and materials that meet current industry standards
• plan and prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines
• experience the typical workflow for the industry
^ require adherence to service standards, workplace procedures. health and safety requirements
• work with others as part of a team
^ consider constraints and pressures met in the workplace, e.g. budget, time, availability of resources
o If a simulated workplace is used, it must allow for distractions such as background noises, ringing telephones, interruptions, etc As this is a business unit, a simulated environment may also include an office environment with office equipment and computers. Each student must dress appropriately and professionally in line with workplace standards.
For each assessment, you are not to interfere. In the event that the assessment is activities will impact on the safety of a student or bystander, the assessment must be stopped immediately

operational plan implantation, and provide recommendations focusing on improvements.
• For this task, you are to role-play a stakeholder relevant to the student's operational plan. This will require you to be available for the student to answer questions asked.
