This assignment must be your own work. Learning objectives and graduate skills tested
This assignment relates to your ability to demonstrate your understanding of the various components of an online business, aligning them with a business’ strategic requirements and objectives and communicating them to the client as a tangible product and a written report for their consideration and evaluation within a business environment.
Assignment Requirements
Your client was most impressed with your web site prototype (Assignment 2), barring a few possible changes, and has given you the go ahead to develop their fully functional online business.
Using your prototype as a starting point, build on it the rest of the features and functions that will allow your client to start doing business online.
TASK 1: JOURNAL (5 marks)
Prepare a journal that records your activities and progress related to completing this assignment. In date order, clearly list the following:
• Date of research activity/discussion
• Web sites visited to collect information; other references accessed
• Time duration of the activity
Submit this journal as an appendix to Task 3. Any references to web pages and online documents, such as white papers, should be listed at the end of the journal.
TASK 2: FINAL WEBSITE (45 marks)
1. Use the assigned URL supplied to you by Cloudaccess.net/WordPress to develop the final product for your client
a. ANOTHER REMINDER: Ensure that the website is directly and obviously related to the business model/category that was assigned to you. Failure to do so will result in your assignment being rejected and a zero mark awarded.
2. Extend your WordPress prototype (from Assignment 2) to include:
a. An aesthetically pleasing, easy- to-use interface
b. Customer registration
c. A comprehensive product/service catalogue
d. Shopping cart
e. Order form and payment interface
f. Discussion forum
g. Feedback form
Task 2 will be assessed for completeness and working functionality based on an inspection of your website.
TASK 3: REPORT (essay format) (50 marks)
You are required to provide a report to (1) describe the website you developed in Task 2, and (2) respond to specific questions posed by your client with particular reference to the website. Use appropriate numbering, headings and sub-headings in your report.
1. PART ONE: WEBSITE
1.1. Identify the URL of the website and your assigned business model/category in the first part of the report.
1.2. Briefly describe each of the website features and functionality that you implemented in Task
2, as well how they were achieved using WordPress. (500 words)
1.3. Provide a site map of the website in the form of a tree diagram that shows the hierarchical structure of the site.
2. PART TWO: CLIENT QUESTIONS RELATED TO HIS WEBSITE
(maximum 200 words per response)
2.1. What is the need for routers in his business? (Textbook: Chapter 2)
2.2. What does “stickiness” mean and how does he facilitate this characteristic in his website? (Textbook: Chapter 3)
2.3. How does he deal with the issue of “channel conflict” if he is selling his products both in retails stores and through this new website? (Textbook: Chapter 3)
2.4. He wants to incorporate a customer-based marketing strategy into the Web site designs. Explain why this is a challenge and outline things his company can do to overcome these difficulties. (Textbook: Chapter 4)
2.5. In what ways can the Internet and his new website help him reduce the spend of his company, particularly with regards his suppliers? (Textbook: Chapter 5)
2.6. What are the advantages of developing a social networking strategies for his company? (Textbook: Chapter 6)
2.7. What are some potential ethical issues that his company needs to address arising from his new online presence? (Textbook: Chapter 7)
2.8. What role can a web server play in making his web site more effective? (Textbook: Chapter 8)
2.9. Discuss the different hosting options there are for his website. (Textbook: Chapter 9)
2.10. How could cookies help him in his website? (Textbook: Chapter 10)
2.11. What role would an acquiring bank play on his website? (Textbook: Chapter 11)
2.12. What measures can he use to identify some of the potential benefits that he has been told by you that he will gain from conducting his business through the website you have developed for him? (Textbook: Chapter 12)

• An Assignment submitted after the due date without an approved extension of time will be penalised. The penalty for late submission is a reduction by five percent (5%) of the maximum Mark applicable for the Assignment, for each University Business Day or part Business Day that the Assignment is late. An Assignment submitted more than ten (10) University Business Days after the due date will have a Mark of zero recorded for that Assignment.
