BSBPMG522A Case Study
A project manager has asked you to help him. The project manager has failed in a previous project, and there were major problems. He wants to learn from his mistakes. Read the specific information, in the box below.
He has been offered another project; to manage the installation of another new kitchen, in an office location. He does not want the same negative experiences or failures, as before – he is desperate to make sure everything works, this time.
Prepare a project scope and project plan, assume costs for a budget and prepare this. Attach any other project management tools, which you believe will assist him to plan the project.
Also provide a comprehensive checklist of what he should do, in the future, to be an effective project manager. Design a checklist and attach, to identify all aspects to be closed off, as part of the project review.
Situation
A small project he managed failed to meet all requirements. The project scope was to design, refurbish and fit out a new kitchen, for a small real estate office.
The budget was blown out, so cheaper appliances had to be installed.
Tradespeople are claiming extra overtime – they say there was not enough time provided, in the first place.
The installation of equipment did not fit, as the installers say the initial design was incorrect.
None of the stakeholders have ever met, as the project manager was in control of everything.
The customer is not happy and believes they now have an unworkable and substandard kitchen.
