Purpose of Assessment Task One
The purpose of this assessment task is to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the nurse’s leadership role in relation to clinical risk management, and continuing professional development
Assignment question
To ensure safe and quality patient care a Registered Nurse must have a variety of leadership skills. Engaging patients effectively is one of those skills. Reflect upon and critically discuss why patient participation is important in maintaining quality and safe patient outcomes and discuss strategies that can assist Registered Nurses in improving patient participation in care.

To be successful with this assessment task you are strongly advised to:
x Draw upon relevant cloud concepts, content covered in this unit.
x Identify relevant literature and other sources of evidence to explain the importance of effective patient engagement as an important aspect of the nurse’s leadership role and how that engagement impacts on the delivery of safe and quality patient care. The suggested readings in the unit are a good place to start. References to google websites and/or Wikipedia are not appropriate for this assessment task.

Structure:
Must contain a purposeful introduction that outlines some general background to the topic, an aim and purpose and themes for discussion. The body of the assignment will constitute about 80% of the word limit and provide key arguments supported by literature. The body of the assignment is normally organised in paragraphs of approximately 150 words with each paragraph focused on explanation of one idea. There should be a logical progression of ideas as demonstrated by logically linked arguments/discussion made in each paragraph. Each paragraph should commence with a topic sentence and end with a link to the next paragraph, and show a logical progression of ideas/argument. The conclusion paragraph should provide a summation of ideas, draw together the discussion, present no new material (references are not expected in the conclusion paragraph) and offer your position drawn from the discussion.
Communicate using academic writing:
Adheres to conventions of written English eg. word choice, professional language, grammar, use of appropriate sentence structure, punctuation and spelling.
Use of direct quotations: unless really necessary, most assignments do not require the use of direct quotes. Instead, re-expression of author arguments into your own words is required. If a direct quotation is used, you must explain how it adds to the discussion.
