Assessment One - Short Answer Test (40%) Due: Sunday 22nd September, 23:59 WST
This short answer test is based on the topics Behaviour Modification and Assertive Discipline. You are required to answer both of the two (2) questions listed below. Each question will be worth 20 marks and you will need to write a maximum of 1,000 words for each question, not counting references.
1. Paul is a graduate teacher looking forward to teaching his own Year 3 class and wants to use extrinsic rewards such as stickers and stamps to create a positive learning atmosphere. What are two arguments for this approach? One of his colleagues (Marc), who is also a graduate teacher teaching a Year 3 class, has said he will not be using any extrinsic rewards. What are two arguments that would support Marc’s view?
2. Sophie is a graduate teacher starting at a new school in a Year 6/7 class. She has been informed that the school has a policy requiring all students to do a minimum of 10 minutes of homework each week night.Explain and justify the steps, from a Behaviour Modification approach, that Sophie could take to make sure her students do their homework and bring it back to school the next day. Use relevant readings to support your response, in particular the process as outlined on Page 63 of your textbook.
Use your knowledge of theory and research and relevant readings to develop and justify the arguments. Criteria for assessment • Clear explanations of key concepts and issues relevant to all components of the question. • Arguments justified by referring to evidence from the text book and other readings.
• Well-written, correctly referenced responses free from spelling and grammatical errors.
