MN603 Wireless Network & Security
Assignment 1 (20%)
Total Marks: 20
Due Date:
Melbourne and Sydney: 4th Sept’15 – Week 7
Assignment Overview:
Your lecturer will choose a topic out of three to prepare a research report about it. Use the instructions within the topic to prepare the report. The object of this assignment is to improve your knowledge about the cute edge wireless technologies and your critical thinking about them. The assignment will also increase your knowledge regarding practical implementation of those technologies in enterprise setup.
Topic 1 (20 marks)
Investigate the cloud-managed wireless networks and compile a brief report of around 1400 words. Your references may come from websites, white papers, government documents or published conference or journal papers.
Your report should include only the body (about 1200 words), conclusion (about 200 words) and the reference list (in addition to table of contents and introduction). Use the sub-headings given in the template and include in-text references in the body of the report. Use IEEE style of referencing for the list of references and in-text references.
Marks allocation:
1. Introduction. (2 marks)
2. Architecture. (5 marks)
3. Advantages and disadvantages. (4 marks)
4. Key service providers. (4 marks)
5. Any other relevant information. (2 marks)
Conclusion:
A well written coherent conclusion (2 marks)
References:
Adhered to IEEE style (1 mark)
Topic 2 (20 marks)
Investigate the emerging wireless broadband services available in Australia and compile a brief report of around 1400 words. Your references may come from websites, white papers, government documents or published conference or journal papers. Your report should include brief descriptions of underlying technologies and protocols, bandwidth and QoS issues, recommended usages and the geographical areas covered as well as any other relevant information on such networks. Please ensure that you understand the term wireless broadband first before you undertake your literature research.

Plagiarism
All used sources must be properly acknowledged with references and citations, if you did not create it. Quotations and paraphrasing are allowed but the sources must be acknowledged. Failure to do so is regarded as plagiarism and the minimum penalty for plagiarism is failure for the assignment. The act of given your assignment to another student is classified as a plagiarism offence. Copying large chucks and supplying a reference will result in zero marks as you have not contributed to the report.
Due Date & Submission
The report is due at Week 7
By the due date, you must submit on Moodle:
1. Name your file with your student number
2. The report will be automatically checked by Turnitin embedded on moodle. By submitting on MOODLE you agree that the work is yours unless properly cited.
Late submission of assignments will be penalised as follows:
• For assignments 1 to 5 days late, a penalty of 10% (of total available marks) per day.
• For assignments more than 5 days late, a penalty of 100% will apply.

Your submission must be compatible with the software (PDF/Word) in MIT, Computer Laboratories/Classrooms.
Extensions: Under normal circumstances extensions will not be granted. In case of extenuating circumstances—such as illness—a Special Consideration form, accompanied by supporting documentation, must be received before 3 working days from the due date. If granted, an extension will be only granted only by the time period stated on the documentation; that is, if the illness medical certificate was for one day, an extension will be granted for one day only. Accordingly the student must submit within that time limit.
Penalties may apply for late submission without an approved extension.
Penalties: Academic misconduct such as cheating and plagiarism incur penalties ranging from a zero result to program exclusion.
