Assignment One: Group Project: Case Report
ASSESSMENT
No. DESCRIPTION AND MARKING CRITERIA
1
Group Project: Case Analysis (50%)
The purpose of this assessment is to develop your capability to plan, analyse and review supply chain sustainability issues based on the data and information collected from a real-world organisation.
(Written report: Size: between 5000 - 6000 words (A4, typed on one side, one-and-a half spaced, font 12, Times New Roman) plus references and appendix).
• To complete this assignment, you will work as a consultant team of five-six persons.
The assessment has two parts:
• Assessment 1a: Project presentation (30%), Project Preparation (5%), Project
analysis (15%)
• Assessment 1b: Project report (50%),
Choose one of the following topics and an organisation for your research project:
• Case: Sustainable procurement in the public/private sector.
• Case: Green supply chain
• Case: Reverse supply chain
Use the relevant questionnaire (Questionnaire 1, 2, 3 – see Appendix) for collecting data and information. Your presentation and report will be based on the analysis of the data and information collected based on the questionnaire.
Assessment 1a: Project Presentation
Process
• Form a team of five-six persons.
• Notify the course coordinator your team members via email by using ‘Group Details Form’ provided in the Learning Hub.
• Identify a real organisation by making a preliminary research. Choose an organisation which has the most available information. Sources of information include websites, annual reports, media reports, preliminary data from the organisation (if possible), and any other publicly available information etc.
• Inform the course coordinator of the topic (Questionnaire) as soon as possible that your group has chosen.
• Your team members will act as supply chain managers (responsible for sustainability) of the chosen organisation. On behalf of the organisation, you will answer to the questions
specified in the questionnaire. Your answers will be the basis (statistics and information) for analysis.
• You are expected to validate your findings (both in presentation and report) using concepts, theory, and models (frameworks) discussed during lecture sessions.
• It is expected that all members of the group will participate in the presentation and prepare to answer the questions at the end of the presentation.
On this part of the assessment, the group shall prepare a maximum of 20 minutes presentation to be followed by a 5 -7 minute discussion and Q & A (depending on student numbers).
The presentation shall target the top level management of the organisation such as Board of Directors. Therefore, it has to be clear, supported with strong evidence and has to be presented in a business-friendly manner. This presentation shall cover but not limited to
• Background of the organisation;
• Information and data collection process
• Analysis and findings; and
• Managerial implications and recommendations.
Marking Criteria and Distribution
1. Presentation and preparation (25%):- evidence of preparation; use of presentation aids; responsibility sharing; interaction with audience; time management.
2. Content (60%) :- coverage of the topics; extent of evidence; clarity of argument; analysis and; recommendations.
3. Discussion (15%):- quality of response to questions; participation and contribution in answering questions.
Details of the presentation marking guide is given in Appendix A.
Important Notes
• Prepare a power point presentation
• You need to submit only a soft copy (via email to the course coordinator) of the presentation (powerpoint/Prezi slides only) at least a day before your presentation
• All members of the group are expected to participate in the presentation and Q & A.
Assessment 1b: Project Report
The group’s report will be between 5000 and 6000 words excluding reference and appendix.
Your report will be based on the analysis of data and information collected using survey questionnaire. You may follow the following structure for your report:
1. Table of content
2. Executive summary
3. Introduction
4. Background of the organisation
5. Data and Information gathering process
6. Analysis of the data and information.
7. Discussion of the findings
8. Managerial implications and recommendations 9. Conclusion.
A Marking Guide for the Group Report is given in Appendix B
Important Notes
• All sources of information should be acknowledged using appropriate citation style.
• Refrain from copying texts from a company’s Website without proper citation.
• You are expected to engage sufficiently with relevant literature to support your analysis
• Your report should be consistent with your presentation. Major deviations will be penalized.
• You will submit only a soft copy of your report on to the Blackboard via Turnitin (under Learning Hub).
Group Grades and Peer Evaluations
Generally each member of a group will receive a single grade given to the group on the basis of the group’s overall performance. There may be instances where this is not fair, however. Thus peer evaluation (a form is attached – Appendix C is requested after the group work is completed and individual grades will be adjusted to reflect your group’s judgement of your contribution. You do not have to submit the peer evaluation if you think that all members of your group have contributed (i.e., researching, organising, writing and attending group discussions) equally. Otherwise submit the peer evaluation form.
Assignment Two: Individual Research Report
2
Individual Research Report (50%)
The purpose of this assignment is to develop your capability to understand supply chain sustainability concepts, methods, and frameworks. On this assignment, you will write a research report of about 4000 words based on review of relevant literature on one of the following topics:
(Written report: A4, typed on one side, one-and-a half spaced, font 12 (Times New Roman) plus reference pages and appendix).

• Appendices can be added if additional material is considered essential.
NOTE: You are NOT writing an open easy on the chosen topic. You are writing a research report based on the chosen articles only.
Marking Criteria and Distribution
The written report will be graded using the attached grading sheet- Appendix D: ‘Marking Criteria – Individual Research Report’. The grading sheet consists of four major items:
1. Organisation (10%)
2. Research (20%)
3. Analysis and Discussion (60%)
4. Innovation (10%)
Please check the above items while preparing your report.

Intensity of
Importance Definition Explanation
1 Equal Importance Two activities contribute equally to the objective
3 Moderate importance Experience and judgement slightly favour one activity over another
5 Strong importance Experience and judgement strongly favour one activity over another
7 Very strong or demonstrated importance An activity is favoured very strongly over another, its dominance demonstrated in practice
9 Extreme importance The evidence favouring one activity over another is of the highest possible order of affirmation
2, 4, 6, 8 For compromise between the above values Sometimes one needs to interpolate a compromise judgement numerically because there is no good word to describe it
Reciprocal and above If activity i has one of the above nonzero numbers assigned to it when compared with activity j, then j has the reciprocal value when compared with i A comparison mandated by choosing the smaller element as the unit to estimate the larger one as a multiple of that unit
Rationals Ratios arising from the scale If consistency were to be forced by obtaining n numerical values to span the matrix
1.1-1.9 For tied activities When elements are closed and nearly indistinguishable; moderate is 1.3 and extreme is 1.9
Factor: Internal factors - Determination of criticality of Internal factors while assessing the implementation of reverse supply chain
